Currently, a project is under way to integrate the MetNet tools and MetNetDB into a single platform that can be downloaded and installed on a user's computer. The goal of the project is to not only provide the full functionality of the existing tools, but also to make it easy for the user to open another tool using the current data.
To meet this goal in a seamless manner, the platform builds on the open source Hivemind project. Specifically, integration of the tools is accomplished by developing Hivemind services for each tool connection. Each service is created to handle the task of converting the data into the form required by the next tool and starting the tool with the data ready for use. Another benefit of using Hivemind services is that it required minimal change to the existing tools so they can continue to be used as stand-alone tools.
